Ms. Sahiba Gafarova, Chairperson of the Non-Aligned Movement Parliamentary Network, met with Ms. Siti Rozaimeriyanty binti Abdul Rahman, Secretary General of the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly

On  May 2, Ms. Sahiba Gafarova, Speaker of the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Chairperson of the Non-Aligned Movement Parliamentary Network, met with Ms. Siti Rozaimeriyanty binti Abdul Rahman, Secretary General of the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly, during her visit to Azerbaijan in the framework of in the VI World Forum on Intercultural Dialogue.

Ms. Sahiba Gafarova underlined that the World Forum on Intercultural Dialogue had been established on the basis of the ‘Baku Process’ upon the instance of H.E. Mr. Ilham Aliyev, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan and has to date become an important international platform supporting intercultural dialogue and open discussions about our world’s concerns that require combined effort and collaboration. The Inter-Parliamentary Conference on the theme of “The Role and Best Practices of the Legislature in the Protection of Cultural Heritage” held on the margins of the Forum was emphasised as an important opportunity for parliamentarians to discuss the subject-matter and as a momentum in the context of a continued deepening of the dialogues between the legislative assemblies.

Memorandum of Understanding signed between the AIPA and the Non-Aligned Movement Parliamentary Network under the Azerbaijani presidency in Manama in March 2023 was recalled in the meeting. It was noted that this Memorandum creates a basis for developing parliamentary diplomacy, dialogue and cooperation.

Besides, there was an exchange of opinions about several other matters of joint interest.
